Part-Time Director of Music

Position Summary: The Director of Music will work closely with the Senior and/or Assistant Rabbi in facilitating Shabbat & holiday services & in managing a team of musicians & vocalists. Using songs old & new, liturgy & other creative tools, the Director of Music will foster dynamic congregational worship. The Director of Music will provide leadership, vision & passion for music & liturgy that is in line with the overall vision, purpose & mission of Shuvah Yisrael.

Requirements: 
  • High level of skill in singing & in playing a lead instrument.
  • Ability to recruit, train, manage & lead a team of vocalists & musicians.
  • Experience in leading a congregation in worship.
  • Ability to lead songs & liturgy in both English & Hebrew.
  • Faith in Messiah Yeshua that is reflected by leading a life above reproach, characterized by grace, love & devotion to prayer & scripture.
  • Willingness to become a member of Shuvah Yisrael & adhere to Shuvah’s constitution, by-laws, doctrinal statement, policies & the core values of Shuvah Yisrael.
  • Computer skills necessary to plan services & coordinate with the A/V team.
  • A working knowledge of the Hebrew language & Jewish liturgy is preferred.
  • A college degree pertaining to music from a recognized college or university is preferred. 
  • Experience with Planning Center Online (PCO) Services & ProPresenter 7 (Pro7) is preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Meet regularly with the Senior and/or Assistant Rabbi to discuss direction, expectations & results of efforts.
  • Utilize PCO Services to plan services for Shabbat morning, holidays & special events ; choose songs that engage the congregation, encourage participation & support the teaching of the Bible.
  • In concert with the Assistant Rabbi, oversee the implementation of PCO Services & Pro7 in the planning and execution of services.
  • Recruit, train, manage & lead a team of musicians & vocalists that serve the congregation with musical skill & humility. 
  • Lead weekly music practice for Shabbat & Holiday services . 
  • In concert with the Zekeinim Board, set annual goals & cast a vision for the future growth of our congregation in the areas of music & liturgy.
  • Innovate new & creative ways to engage the congregation & to facilitate an atmosphere of worship.
  • Serve as a member of the Shamashim board.
  • Be present at the synagogue for Shabbat & Holiday services.

Hours: 10-20 hours per week (with the hope that this will eventually become a full-time position)

Salary: $25.00 per hour (With potential for the responsibilities & pay to increase over time, based on availability of funds & Zekeinim Board approval.)

Performance Review: The Zekeinim Board will conduct a 6 month performance review & make recommendations to the rabbis regarding changes in hours, pay & responsibilities.

Absences: The Director of Music will arrange for appropriate coverage in the event of absence.
